The Silence of our Mod

I see our mod is silent when pointed comments about issues of free speech and Canada being paired with an American state instead of being on its own as a Country. I still think there should be a Canadian Moderator moderating the Canadian forum. And yes there is one listed but never around.

RE: Edmonton-penticton-coeur d'alene and back road tips

Right now in Vernon it is 1.429 and Kamloops is about the same. They just dropped it a couple of days ago by 3 cents. But as the Lonng Weekend approaches, they will jack it up 7 cents to 1.499 as per their standard ways around here.

RE: RV resorts/camping in BC...best times??

Jasper / Banff, are hard to beat, I never met a non-friendly person anywhere in B.C.!
Last time I looked at a map, they have not moved the provincial boundries, and Jasper and Banff are in Alberta.

RE: Hwy 40 Grande Prarie to Hinton in Alberta

Yes it is paved, and some pulls, and a couple of narrow sections, but they are short. Just watch out for log trucks, and when one is turning, even coming head on to you and making a right for them, DO NOT pass them as they have really long rear overhang, that will swing into your lane.

RE: Edmonton-penticton-coeur d'alene and back road tips

Dont go south to Merritt. Go east from Kamloops to the Jct with 97 at Monte Creek and south from there. The climb up Monte Creek and Kal Lake Lookout are nothing compared to the climbs out of Kamloops and out of Merrit and the drop into Kelowna are real grinds. Go the two lane road route and save gas.

RE: Edmonton-penticton-coeur d'alene and back road tips

If you want to go via Jasper and Kamloops to the Okanagan, then the hills you will have from Kamloops are the climb up Monte Creek Jct. at the Jct with 1 and 97, the pull out of Vernon and Garbage Dump Hill (Kal Lake Lookout) south of Vernon, the drop out of Summerland to Penticton, the gradual climb out of Penticton. The best route from Osoyoos to Spokane is 97 south to the Jct with WA 17 south of Omak. You will only have a very gradual pull from Bridgeport up to the Jct with WA 174. Take the 174 to the Jct with US 2 and follow that to Spokane and from there your are on your way. I have used this route with my transport as it is the least pulls and slowdowns for towns and Jct. saving fuel.

RE: Jasper to Kamloops to Bellingham WA

A little more scenic and pleasant is the 5A from Kamloops to Merritt. It is about 11km longer than the Coquahalla and joins back up at Merritt to do the rest of the Coquahalla.
If you go this route you will have to climb out of Kamloops on an 5% grade for a short bit then an 11% down grade into the valley this highway follows. Then you are done with major pulls until Merritt.

RE: Jasper to Kamloops to Bellingham WA

Jasper to Kamloops the only pulls you will have is up from the river at the JCT of 5 & 16 and it is 3%. The other is south of Blue River. It is 5% and not bad. South of Kamloops on 5 is the pull to Surrey Lake Summit. It is in stages with short flat points, and only runs about 5%. The drop down Nicola Valley into Merritt is about the same. Climbing south out of Merritt is 5-6% and the drop to Coldwater is the same. Climbing off the Coldwater River is 6%. Once you leave the toll booth you will travel about 5 miles to the top of the Smasher (truckers name for Snow Shed Hill or Box Canyon as they now call it). This is an 8% drop and levels out to 2-3% after the snow shed until you get to Shylock (Protia) and it will drop at 6%. Once you get the curving left hand bridge at the bottom you are out of the woods as far as long grades go. There are some short bumps but nothing to worry about.

RE: Can you pack items next to the Converter?

Well I was going with the info that there was a coffee maker and naturally thought it was 120 VAC and used an invertor for power.

RE: Grades in Canada

The grade in percentage is a mathimatical equation. If the sign says 6% for 2 KM then the drop over the 2 KM stretch is 120 meters. 2000 meters (2 km) multiplied by 0.06 (6%) = 120 meters. This means you will decend 120 meter over the next 2 kms. This DOES NOT mean the drop is all at one time but could be fluctuating over the distance travelled.

RE: Can you pack items next to the Converter?

The right term is Invertor not convertor. A convertor converts the Alternating Current into Direct Current. An Invertor inverts part of the Direct Current making Alternating Current.
And yes you can pack items there for travel. Just allow for free air flow over and around the invertor while in use.

RE: Wintering in BC in a Motorhome

I would suggest lining the entire bottom of your unit with straw bails to 8 inches above the floor level. This will keep your floor warm and help with the heating issue.

RE: Backing Up

Sounds like you have a thrust angle problem where the TV axles are aligned but you are dog tracking ever so slightly. This will cause a turning or dog tracking trailer when backing up.

RE: Wally World question

With more and more Wallyworlds stopping overnighters I would suggest looking up the stores of interest to you online and calling them directly. This would give you the quickest answer.

RE: RV resorts/camping in BC...best times??

If you want to come up to the Okanagan on the Labour day weekend then Just north of Vernon at Armstrong is the I.P.E. (Interior Provincial Exhibition)
There are lots of sun and beaches in the Okanagan Valley right from the US border all the way up to Vernon.
If you are interested, but your children may not be, there are winery guided tours.

RE: Tarp under the tent or in the tent ??

One thing about a tarp or not is that you are on higher ground than the rest of the site you are in. Having a tarp under and being the low spot, you will still get water under.

RE: Need some help on a pop up

If you can find one of the older ones like mine in my sig, then yes it is a matter of knocking the axle off and cutting the tongue off and welding the rest of the frame in place on your other trailer.
